Our national political landscape is so polarized that engaging with people who disagree can feel frustrating at best and risky at worst. But we can find hope in developing skills for collaborating with people who have different ideas and experiences; these skills are important for both a good life and a strong democracy. Those with skills to engage across differences have more academic and career success, better interpersonal relationships, and they help make their communities stronger. Megan Halteman Zwart, Provost and Vice President at Saint Mary‘s College, will share her experiences teaching a class entitled Dialogue and Civil Discourse, directing The Dialogue Project at Saint Mary‘s, and scaling this dialogue work on campus during her time as Provost.
