Across the country, League Observer Corps support the fundamental League principle that “government bodies protect the citizen’s right to know by giving adequate notice of proposed actions, holding open meetings and making public records accessible.”

LWV South Bend observers attend public meetings and report about the actions our local government is taking, as well as whether it is conducting business openly, transparently, and in accordance with open door laws

Observers engage actively in the work of identifying and reporting community issues, concerns, and trends that can help shape League programs and action. For example, the League's presence several years ago at Election Board meetings during early discussions of vote centers evolved into a partnership with elected officials to provide educational programs about vote centers.

Members interested in observing public meetings are encouraged to send an email to league@lwvsouthbend.org. You can learn more about League membership here.
